Part I · What the soil delivers

The grocery store says broccoli.
The mineral panel says something else.

Move the dials. Synthetic fertilizer reduces soil microbial mineralization. Glyphosate chelates metals out of bioavailability. Together they thin what the broccoli can deliver.

Minerals delivered into the produce (% of 1950 baseline)

The vertical mark is the 1999 USDA composition level from Davis et al. The 1950 baseline sits at 100%.

The dietary guidance has not been updated. The five servings on the guideline arrive with the nutrient density of two and a half.

Part III · The body's mineral access

The gut still has to absorb
what arrives.

Mineral status depends on what reaches the cell, not what enters the mouth. Each factor below changes that fraction. Toggle what the body has working for it.

Toggle the absorption factors

Fraction absorbed
20%

A compromised gut absorbs roughly 20% of incoming minerals. With the factors above, the rate rises to 20%.

Servings needed to match 1950
12.5

To deliver the cellular mineral load five 1950 servings provided, the body in this room needs twelve and a half modern servings.

Part IV · The cohort

Measured across the century.
Replicated across the regions.

The depletion is documented. The downstream signal is documented. The connection is the body that ate the produce.

Davis 2004. Mayer 1997. White and Broadley 2005. Bhardwaj 2024. The same direction, every time, in every region the comparison has been run.

Real direction.
A model.

solid ground

USDA garden-crop composition declined measurably from 1950 to 1999 across the nutrients USDA tracked. Davis 2004 documented it. Mayer, White, Bhardwaj, and others extended it. Soil microbial biomass has collapsed in industrial-managed soils. These are not in dispute.

real direction

Glyphosate is a chelator; its metal-binding behavior is established chemistry. The plant grows mineral-poor on synthetic NPK. Crop dilution effect is documented. The cumulative effect on the eater is mechanism-plausible and supported by trend data.

a model

The exact percentage decline by mineral, the absorption factor multipliers, the servings-to-match conversion — these illustrate the architecture. They are not a reading of one person's intake. The real reading comes from serum mineral panels and a food source audit.

Where is your food sourced,
and what is missing from it.
